Hello, my name is Christy Sloat and in addition to being a photographer I am a mother of two, and a full time paralegal. Yes, I lead a full life, but love every minute of it!
Although I’m farely new to the “professional” side of photography, I’ve been a “shutter bug” since I got my first camera a the age of 12. My first love however has always been children. I’ve been babysitting since the age of 12 and have always been able to identify well with them. I grew up being told that I had a good eye (art and photography), and a, “way with children”. So naturally I couldn’t wait to have my own someday, which has been such a huge part of my journey to where I am now.
After I had my daughter I found the my love for photography grew and grew. I couldn’t seem to stop taking pictures, trying to capture every moment, hoping that some day she would be able to read them like a book that would tell the beautiful story of her childhood. Shortly thereafter I began to look around and notice other children with their families at the park, the zoo, a picnic, or throwing a ball in their yard and I instantly had the urge to “capture” and preserve this memory for them! So I began photographing them – with their permission of course 🙂 and after many kind comments, urging, and support from family and friends, I’ve found myself here:

My style is candid and relaxed. I use Nikon professional equipment and lenses as well as natural light for a more natural look and feel to your photographs. I prefer shooting at outdoor locations or in your home, catching those intimate moments of you and your family just “being” together and doing what you love. For children I don’t do a lot of posing or positioning (unless requested), but rather sit back and capture them as they explore, play, and interact with their parents to capture life as it happens. I believe my “way with children” allows them to relax and be themselves during our photo sessions. “Cheese” is not a word in my vocabulary, but I do believe that you will enjoy these more candid moments, and that they make for the best kind of memories for years to come.
YOU GO CHRISTY!!! I saw that you were doing this through my neighborhood parents group. i’ll be calling you for some yummy pics of my ever growing kids 🙂
